Comprehensive Exam

The Summer M.Ed. Comprehensive Exam will be administered Thursday, July 17, 2008, through Tuesday, July 22, 2008. The deadline for application is Thursday, July 3, 2008. Please contact your advisor if you have questions regarding the exam.

Instructions to Take Master's Comps by E-mail

The master's comprehensive examination is conducted by e-mail and is taken during a student's last semester of coursework. Students should work with their advisor to fill out the paperwork necessary to sign up for the exam. To access the form click here. The student will then be notified of the dates and instructions by the department.

General synopsis of the exam:

The exam is administered to students by e-mail and they have five days to complete it. Test questions are sent to the student's e-mail address, and the student returns the e-mail to the exam coordinator, who is typically the graduate coordinator.

There are a total of 8 questions of which you will choose to answer 5, creating a mini-research paper in response to each question.

COEHP Core: You will be asked to complete 2 of 3 questions.
WDED Core: You will be asked to complete 1 of 2 questions.
WDED Specialty Core: You will be asked to complete 2 of 3 questions.

Instructions to complete the exam questions:

Each exam question response must begin on a new page with the question (single-spaced) as the title of the mini-research paper.
The APA style manual should be used for all citations. Papers submitted that do not conform to APA standards may be subject to failure.
Each exam question response must include a minimum of three references, of which only one can be from the Internet. If you cite more references, you many use up to half of them from the Internet.
Each exam question response must be 3 to 5 pages long per question excluding references.
Required format: Font size, 12; title (exam question), single-spaced; margins, one inch; paper and references, double-spaced. The paper may be submitted as a Word, WordPerfect or pdf document.
Any resources you choose to use are acceptable, except you may not consult any individuals. You may call or e-mail Faye Turner for procedural questions upon receipt of the questions. Please do so either on Thursday or Friday. She will not be able to answer any questions related to exam questions.
