Professional Biography:
Susan Slaughter received her Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Science and a Master of Education in Educational Technology from the University of Arkansas. Prior to working at the University, she taught Family and Consumer Science for 12 years. Susan has worked for the University of Arkansas since 1989 developing, writing and editing various types of early childhood, vocational and technical curriculum. She is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the Arkansas Early Childhood Association.
Job Duties:
Susan is currently the training advisor for four Pre-Kindergarten statewide training programs which comprise the Early Care and Education Curriculum Endorsement. Arkansas Early Childhood Education (AECE) Framework for Three and Four Year Olds training program [45 hours] is designed to train early childhood professionals in the use of the AECE Framework Handbook which includes curriculum, strategies, and assessment. Pre-K Early Literacy Learning in Arkansas (Pre-K ELLA) [30 hours] is a program that equips early childhood professionals with skills to provide young children with an appropriate foundation in literacy. Pre-K Social Emotional Learning (Pre-K SEL) [30 hours] is designed for professionals who need skills in providing young children with social emotional learning activities. Pre-K Math Science (Pre-K MS) [30 hours] is designed to provide professionals with skills needed to provide 3 and 4 year old children with appropriate math and science learning experiences. Susan also works with other early childhood local projects advising writers, editing curriculum, and developing publications.
